Birdseed…
Heads dropping and
Dignity declining.
The frailty of flowers
Becoming all too evident.
As even the memories of those
Sun filled days begin to fade.
Once swathed in summer splendour,
Stubborn, sentinel, statuesque,
Sunflowers standing proudly staring skywards.
Now
Swaying gently in the autumn breeze,
All that will soon remain
Is birdseed flecked in the decaying corpse
To await nature’s scavengers.
